Welcome to the Master's in Bioinformatics at the University of Magallanes

General objective

The program aims to provide professionals from various disciplines with updated training in the field of bioinformatics by developing new software tools that implement techniques for analyzing biological data, while adhering to international standards of ethics and quality.

Specific objectives

  • Master the fundamental contributions and advancements in biological sciences and computing related to bioinformatics.
  • Train professionals with the ability to manage and critically evaluate updated information.
  • Train professionals with the ability to evaluate and apply methodological tools in bioinformatics.
  • Train professionals with the ability to design and implement research and/or applied projects.
  • Train professionals with the ability to design, implement, apply, and/or adapt updated software tools through techniques developed in the field of bioinformatics.
  • Train professionals with the ability to conduct applied scientific research independently, adhering to the ethical and quality standards established by the scientific community.

Application requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or Professional Title, or possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in sciences related to biology, engineering, or computer science, awarded by a university recognized by the Chilean government or, in the case of foreign institutions, by the government of the respective country.
  • Complete the application form for the Master's program.
  • A letter describing your interests and reasons for applying to this program and university.
  • Notarized copy of the Bachelor's degree or Professional Title. For international students, the copy must be certified by the Chilean Consul in the country of origin and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chile.
  • Transcript and diploma certificate for all degrees obtained.
  • Undergraduate graduation ranking.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Two letters of recommendation (in the suggested format).
  • Two photos with RUT (Chilean National Identification Number) included.
  • Photocopy of the identity card, both sides.
  • *If you have completed postgraduate studies, attach a legalized copy of the degree and transcript.
